ALKERDEN
Alkerden forms the centrepiece to the wider development, providing brand-new community facilities as well as approximately 1,500 new homes, of which 500 have now been delivered.
Alkerden is defined by the market centre which will provide commercial, retail, community facilities, and an Education Campus. There will also be a civic hub with a Lifelong Learning Centre, Library, police presence, job centre, health and social care provision, Adult social care, hall, religious facility and co-location space.
Planning permission for the Alkerden Education Campus was granted in January 2021. The Campus, which includes a nursery, primary school, secondary school with 2,200 places, dual-use sports centre, pitches, running track and tennis courts has now been opened for the first intake of students. The state of the art sports facilities will be open to the community outside school hours.
Alkerden will sit immediately alongside a major new urban park, a brand-new extensive area of public space incorporating childrens play, public squares, sports facilities, walking and cycling routes.
